Amsterdam

Canals, restaurants, bakerys, casinos, cobblestone streets, prostitutes in windows, more canals and a world of history pepper the streets of Amsterdam.  So began a wonderful second day for us.

Jetlag has amazing effects on the human body.  Tom actually woke up before 11AM.  We were out drinking coffee and eating cheese sandwiches by nine that morning and exploring the then empty streets of the city.  Our amazement with the "mini-car" was evident as we flashed our digital camera in each neighborhood.  Every museum, every shop was closed.  We had yet to figure out the time or holiday schedule of our uncharted city.

In addition to being obsessed with the "mini-car", we fell in love with the canals.  Tom's babushka look kept him warm and a joy to be with.

In the afternoon we took a canal ride through the city.  Although "touristy" and "kitsch", it was a great way to explore the canals and see the city in a relaxed way.  Highly recommended.  We met a lovely older couple from the North on the boat who were visiting Amsterdam for the day.  We now consider them our closest friends.
